Stone Circles & Lacock
 This full-day tour incorporates a visit to both Stonehenge and Avebury. Perfect if you can’t decide which stone circle to visit!
First we head down the motorway to visit Stonehenge, stopping for about 45 minutes for you to enjoy this most iconic of historical monuments. Then we drive through some pretty Wiltshire towns and villages before arriving at the amazing (well, it seems magical to me!) Caen Hill Locks. We’ll stop for a short while to take photos, and watch some canal boats (hopefully) as they navigate the 16 locks (out of a stretch of 29). It’s exhausting just watching them, so we head to Lacock for lunch, one of the prettiest villages in England, cared for by the National Trust. Many films and TV series have been filmed here, notably Harry Potter, and The Cranford Chronicles.
 
On this tour we will pass one of the white chalk horses for which Wiltshire is renowned, as we drive to Avebury, where there is time to wander around the stone circle and village.
Please note, that during winter months, it is likely to be getting dark by the time we reach Avebury. Avebury is the largest stone circle in Europe, comprising one large stone circle with two smaller circle inside. Stonehenge would fit inside one of these smaller circles. The village has grown up alongside - and inside the circle, so you are free to wander amongst the remaining stones.
If you are really interested in the Neolithic age, it may be possible to adjust this tour a little to take in also the West Kennet Long Barrow, a burial chamber which predates Stonehenge by about 400 years. However, this involves a half-mile each way walk across fields. Lovely on a sunny day, but maybe not if it is pouring with rain!
